California
Driving home to California
Five hundred miles left behind
I got to be there by the morning
So I can ease my troubled mind
It's never cold in California
Never saw a day the sun didn't shine
It won't be long until I'm home now
Leave my frustrations all behind
I started down this road
Such a long, long, long time ago
From where I don't even know
That don't matter now
I'm going home
I gotta get to where I'm going
I gotta find my own way home
This open road it leads from nowhere
To where I know I'm not alone
Driving home to California
Five hundred miles left behind
I know I'll be there by the morning
And when I get there I'll be fine
When I get home I know I'll be fine

You Can't Run Away
03:36

You Can’t Run Away
In the long summer of '83
I was working at a gas station
Trying to earn a little bit of money
Checking oil and pumping gas
Oh, so slow the time would pass
But then I'd think about September come
I'd be sitting on a train
I'd be rolling down the road
You know it's almost funny
I really thought that I could
Work my way out of my situation
But you can't run away
No you can't run away
From your family
From your people there
No matter where you run
No matter where
No you can't run away
No you can't run away
And though you'll try sometimes
All you’ll find
Is that the ones you love
Are the ones you left behind
I know what it means to run away
I know you do too
I know what it means to hide away
Yea I can show you
But it'll do you no good
Hey haven't I told you
Haven't I told you
That you can't run away
No you can't run away
From your family
From your people there
No matter where you run
No matter where
No you can't run away
No you can't run away
And though you'll try sometimes
All you’ll find
Is that the ones you love
Are the ones you left behind
Left behind

Ordinary Life
03:28
|

Ordinary Life
Sunrise flowing into our room
You wake up when it hits your eyes
I can see rain is coming soon
The sun is fighting with the clouds in the sky
And we're trying to name all the colors
In the early morning light
And looking for a little glory
In an ordinary life
In an ordinary life
The kids wake up with the sun
Their little laughter filling the air
Today we're gonna have some fun
And if it rains we won’t even care
Cause every time they smile at me
I think it's gonna be alright
Their smiles are a little glory
In my ordinary life
In my ordinary life
And as the day goes by
The sun is captured by the season
When I stop to wonder why
I see all of life is its own reason
Clouds up over my head
Raindrops tumbling down
Sometimes I just get to feelin'
Like water's rushing all around
Rushing under my feet, up to my knees
Over my head, into my eyes
Rushing in like glory
In an ordinary life
In an ordinary life

It's Easy To Fly
03:44
|
|||
It’s Easy To Fly
I could lie
And say I didn’t care
Say I wasn’t hurt
Pretend I wasn’t there
To hear the words you said
And though I know it’s true
I could lie
I could try
Try to understand
Why everything we had
And everything we planned
Is slipping from this world
Turning into sand
I could try
But why should I spend another day
When it’s so easy to simply fly away
And how could we turn it all around
When suddenly I've found
It’s easy to fly
I don’t know why
The mystery is gone
Gone into the wind
Gone into the storm
Blowing through this town
Like a hurricane and I
I don’t know why
And don’t deny
You feel the way I do
Like we’re living in a movie
Our lives are in review
The critics all are leaving
Though they’re only me and you
Don’t deny
So how could I spend another day
When it’s so easy to simply fly away
And how could we turn it all around
When suddenly I've found
It’s easy...
And how could I spend another day
When it’s so easy to simply fly away
And how could we turn it all around
When suddenly I've found
It’s easy to fly

Under Blue Skies

Under Blue Skies
I'm packing my bags and I'm taking what's mine
I'm tired of this rain, yea it's rainin' all the time
I gotta find somewhere where the sun will always shine
And you like it here where it's always cold and gray
But I'm begging you darling can't we please move away
I'm hoping you'll come with me ‘cuz I know I'll never stay
There's gotta be something I could say
There's gotta be something I can do
I’m begging you darling to come with me
We'll live together under blue skies
Why do you want these rainy days and rainy nights
When we could live forever together under blue skies
I keep on hoping that maybe you will see
That everything good between you and me
Could last forever if we only wanted it to be
But I gotta get out of this endless pouring rain
Is it too much to hope that you feel the same
Don't you feel deep inside that we both could use a change
There's gotta be something I could say
There's gotta be something I can do
I begging you darling don't you see
We'll live together under blue skies
We don't need no rainy days or rainy nights
When we could live forever together under blue skies
There's gotta be something I could say
There's gotta be something I can do
I'm down on my knees I'm begging please
Let’s live together under blue skies
There'll be no more rainy days or rainy nights
When we live forever together under blue skies
Let's live together under blue skies
Blue skies
Blue skies
Blue skies
Blue skies...

The Love’s Gone Out Of You
I see you smile
I hear the words you say
But when I hold you close
You are far away
And I know you love
What can I do?
I know the love’s gone out of you
Well I could pretend
That I just don’t see
What your heart gives away
When you try to say
That you’re still in love
You know it’s just not true
You know the love’s gone out of you
I won’t try to understand it
I won’t try to hide
I know sometimes we can’t control
What we feel inside
I’m not saying this is what you want
Or that you’re trying to lie
I just know we have to face
What we can’t deny
So I’ll sit for a while
And then I’m on my way
It don’t seem worthwhile
To spend another day
There’s nothing we can say
Nothing we can do
Cause we know the love’s gone out of you

Stonybrook Canyon

Stonybrook Canyon
I don’t want to go down to Stonybrook Canyon
So I’m taking my time
This old country road is a poor companion
To the city streets I leave behind
I was heading up highway ten
When I got a phone call
From that crazy half-brother of mine
So now the road I’m on is gonna take me down to
Stonybrook Canyon tonight
I got some painful memories of Stonybrook Canyon
Some I never thought I would survive
But then there came a day when I started ramblin’
And left that old canyon behind
It’s been seven years since I drove this country road
But I, I can still find my way half-blind
My old man lays dyin’ down in Stonybrook Canyon
And I will be seein’ him tonight
I don’t suppose you would understand why I’m hesitatin’
Takin’ this slow road through the night
You see I got some love in me and I got some hatin’
For a man who was always ready to fight
There are times when I do believe that I’m movin’ onwards
But this ain’t really one of those times
So I’m on the only road I know that can take me down to
Stonybrook Canyon tonight

Railroad Station

Railroad Station
Wakin' up in a railroad station
Forty dollars in my pocket and change
You bought a ticket I saw you waitin'
Just waitin' for the mornin' train
Hey, what'd you say?
You bought a ticket and you're leavin' today
Hey, can I go too?
There's nothin' left here that I can do
Last night I came home to a family fight
My brother screaming, it just ain't right
He tells our daddy that he wished he were dead
I can't believe the things my brother said
Hey, what'd you say?
You bought a ticket and you're leavin' today
Hey, can I go too?
There's nothin' left here that I can do
Sometimes I wish that I was stronger than I've been
Maybe things would be different
Or maybe I'd have seen
That all along I've been fooling myself
There's only trouble here and nothin' else
There ain't no love here that I can see
And I know this ain't the only way it could be
Hey, what'd you say?
You bought a ticket and you're leavin' today
Hey, can I go too?
There's nothin' left here that I can do
Hey, what'd you say?
You bought a ticket, you're leavin' today
Hey, can I go too?
There's nothin' left here that I can do

Not The Destination

Not The Destination
We’re driving Sunday morning
On our way down to the sea
On a dusty two-lane road
I got a truck in front of me
He’s going slow, there’s no way past
It’s driving me insane
You say honey just relax
You know we’ll get there either way
And you say...
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination
We don’t need to rush right now
You don’t need the aggravation
Let’s take our time, enjoy the drive
It’s beautiful to see
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination
We’re sitting having dinner
A little steak, a little wine
The waiter says I’ll bring your check
You just take your time
Then he disappears for what seems like
Eternity to me
You smile as I become restless
Wondering where can that guy be
And you say...
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination
Let’s sit a while and talk some more
I really don’t mind waitin’
We’ll talk about the weather
And have another sip of wine
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination
Well I’m gettin' a little older
And things ain’t workin' like they should
You know I want to please you, honey
Like I always could
The doc says nothin’s wrong, old pal
It’s probably just stress
You oughta take a nice vacation
And try to get some rest
And you say...
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination
It’s time you learned a little thing
About anticipation
Then you take my hand
You show me ‘round
And teach me something new
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination
The girls are all grown up
And they’ve got children of their own
Seems like only yesterday
They were nestled in our home
The days pass by so quickly now
Like wind between the trees
I can’t help but feel like soon
We’ll both be falling leaves
And you say...
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination
We'll drop in on the kids
We don’t need an explanation
You know Jamie’s got a brand new job
And Susie’s starting to show
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination
Life can be so full of little
Moments of elation
If we take the time to really be
With the people that we love
We’re in it for the journey, honey
Not the destination

I'll Find You
02:45

I’ll Find You
Well the road can be cruel, babe
When I’m far from my home
You know I’m thinking of you, babe
When I’m out on the road
I’m in a hotel room, babe
The third city in a row
There’s a price to be paid, babe
And I’m paying it slow
Seems to me I drive a lot of miles
Just to end up in the same old towns
Seems to me I know I’m going nowhere
Though I drive over a whole lot of ground
And in the end I wonder what it’s all been for
You know there’s only one thing I found
That at the end of the road
When I finally come home
I’ll find you
I'll find you
Seems to me I drive a lot of miles
Just to end up in the same old towns
Seems to me I know I’m going nowhere
Though I drive over a whole lot of ground
And in the end when I wonder what it’s all been for
You know there’s only one thing I found
That at the end of the road
When I finally come home
I’ll find you
I'll find you
I'll find you
I'll find you
I'll find you
